Indications/Uses
Steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated & where bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial ocular infection exists. Post-op inflammation & other ocular inflammation associated w/ infection. Allergic keratoconjunctivitis w/ secondary bacterial infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, varicella & other viral diseases of the conjuctiva & cornea. Mycobacterial infections of the eye. Fungal diseases of ocular structures.
Special Precautions
Not for inj into the eye. Monitor IOP if used for ≥10 days. Glaucoma w/ damage to optic nerve, defects in visual acuity & fields of vision & posterior subcapsular cataract formation (prolonged use). Perforation in diseases causing thinning of cornea or sclera. May mask infections in acute purulent conditions. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Ciprofloxacin: Transient ocular burning or discomfort; stinging, redness, itching, conjunctivitis/keratitis, periocular/facial edema, foreign body sensation, photophobia, blurred vision, tearing, dryness & eye pain. Dexamethasone: IOP elevation w/ possible development into glaucoma. Fungal infections of the cornea (long-term use); secondary bacterial ocular infection.
